Thermaltake Silent BTX CPU Cooler

Price

Crazy PC sells the Thermaltake CL-P0191 BTX CPU Cooler for $39.99. Looking around the web shows that this is a competitive price for this cooler, or any of the other BTX coolers out there (and there aren't that many). Considering the quality of the components used, the generally robust design, and Thermaltake's reputation for long-lasting performance, it seems like a good value for any BTX system owner looking to keep their CPU (relatively) cool and quiet.

Conclusion

If you are in need of a CPU cooler, the Thermaltake brand is always a good option.  They have been building reliable and efficient coolers for other form factors for years, and it appears they have transitioned into the BTX form factor market with ease.  The CL-P0191 Silent BTX CPU Cooler lives up to its name by providing adequate cooling for a blazing hot CPU (Pentium D 840) with almost no noise.

Thermal results will vary from processor to processor, and lower temperatures could be expected on Pentiums that aren't as notorious for heat output.  Despite my hope that the CL-P0191 would keep the D 840 even cooler, it did best the usual temperatures provided by a stock ATX cooler intended for this CPU.

My main concern with the Thermaltake CL-P0191 is that no matter what I did, the fan would never go above 1500 RPM, despite being rated to 2500 RPM.  It could be a design flaw or it could be a defective unit, I am not sure.  Through the use of an alternatate fan, I am sure that this cooler does even better when the airflow is increased (but the silence is sacrificed).

Pros

• Truly about as silent as any cooler I have used on any system.
• Heavy duty, well built.
• Competitively priced.

Cons

• Fan speed never went above 1500 RPM.
• Raised portion of copper base brazed/bonded to the rest of the base.
• Pre-installed thermal pad should be removed before use.

Special thanks to Crazy PC for sponsoring this, our first review!
