Ultra Products 1025 VA 615 Watts Backup UPS

The Basics

The box that the review sample arrived in was slightly mushed and damaged during transit, and was just a bit less than photogenic.  The image below was taken from the Ultra Products website and shows how the box should look.  It does well to show off the product as well as detailing most (if not all) of the features and specifications.  The review sample was shipped from Ultra Products in just this retail style box, which could explain the damage, and other online outlets or brick and mortar retailers may take better steps to make sure that your unit arrives without damage.

The promotional image below details everything that is included in the box.  You receive the Ultra Products 1025 VA 615 Watts Backup UPS, a phone cord, a USB cable, a power cord, a user's manual, and a CD with UPSMON software.

As mentioned, the packaging of the actual unit delivered from Ultra Products was a bit beat up.  The UPS itself survived without any functional problems, but there was some mild physical damage.  The front bezel was slightly dented just above the power button and the button itself had been knocked out of its hole (visible in the below left image).  This was easily remedied by taking the front cover off and reseating the button, and in a later image you can see that just the slight dent remained.  Checking out the rest of the unit's front reveals the Ultra logo in silver across the bottom as well as in raised letters molded into the plastic.  There is also an illuminated display that reveals things such as the mode of operation, AC power level, and battery charge level when in use.

The above right image shows off the business side of the UPS.  Key features include a pair of RJ-11 jacks for surge suppression on your phone line, a USB port for PC based status monitoring, a pair of white power outlets that are surge protected only, four black power outlets that are surge protected and battery backed up, an AC power connection, and a fuse.  Given the power rating of the unit, there should be more than enough connections for typical use, and the inclusion of a surge protected phone jack and two power outlets is a nice bonus.

The image below shows off a side view of the UPS.  It is perforated to help keep the components well ventilated, and removing a total of ten screws allows the cover to slide off for access to the internals (perhaps for a battery change down the road).
