Pricing

Browsing the Internet shows many online retailers with the Ultra Products 1025 VA 615 Watts Backup UPS in stock with a price tag of $100 (US) and up.  The price is quite competitive with other brands in the same power rating...  You may find some of the major players with units that cost much more, and there are other brands that cost about the same.   The price makes this unit appealing, but the performance of the test unit didn't live up to expectations, and makes you wonder if another brand would be a better choice or if we received a defective unit.

Conclusion

Ultra Products may not be a big name in the UPS business, but they have quickly grown to be a respected name in the computer components market and their reputation hopefully extends to this portion of their business as well.  I have been quite pleased with Ultra Products brand memory, cases, and power supplies that I have used, but my initial impression of the 1025 VA 615 Watts Backup UPS is a bit mixed.  The specifications, pricing, and warranty coverage are all great, but the performance just didn't live up to expectations.  Providing a fraction of the run time expected severely hinders the final verdict on this UPS from Ultra Products.

Pros

  • Sleek and stylish
  • Compact, could easily be located out of site
  • Windows software is informative and useful
  • Automatic Voltage Regulation
  • Three year warranty on UPS
  • $125,000 connected equipment warranty
  • Reasonably priced

Cons

  • Provided uptime less than what was expected
  • Linux software / documentation is pitiful and useless
